Alexander was uninjured by the explosion and got out to help the wounded and question his would be assassin when another bomb was thrown at his feet by a second assassin. The second explosion shattered Alexander's lower body and he was rushed to the Winter Palace where the Tsar died hours later.

Death*Alexei Alexandrovich Romanov Grand Duke of Russia died on 14 November 1908 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France, at age 58. 
Note*He was General Admiral of the Russian Imperial Fleet and responsible for modernizing and reorganizing Russia's navy under Tsar Nicholas II Romanov. He built more shipyards, modernized naval ports and visited every European military port of Russia. Alexei also travelled to Canada and the United States where he was received by President Ulysses Grant on 23 November, 1871. While in the United States he participated in buffalo hunts in the Midwest accompanied by Chief Spotted Tail, Chief Two Lance and a contingent of the US Calvary. Among those escorting him from the US Calvary was General Philip Sheridan, General Edward Ord and Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer. Alexei was reported to have formed a life long friendship with Custer. In 1904 the Russo-Japanese war broke out and Alexei's Imperial Russian Navy was soundly defeated by the Japanese. Alexei's First Pacific Squadron led by Commander Wilgelm Vitgeft was defeated at the Battle of Port Arthur and the Second Pacific Squadron led by Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky was defeated by the Japanese at the Battle of Tsushima. Alexei was relieved of his command on 2 June, 1905.

Paul hated the French and sent forces to appose Napoleon by assisting the Austrians and British however this alliance soon dissolved and he eventually moved against Britain but shortly afterwards was assassinated.
