Note*He despite his mother's wishes became Tsar of Russia after her death. Paul repealed many of his mother's harsh policies and apposed her wars of expansion preferring a more peaceful approach. He recalled all Russian troops stationed outside Russia's borders and freed the Polish soldiers and their leader Thaddeus Kosciuszko who had been taken prisoner in his mother's war on Poland. Paul hated the French and sent forces to appose Napoleon by assisting the Austrians and British however this alliance soon dissolved and he eventually moved against Britain but shortly afterwards was assassinated.
